News from my Sabbatical

Published: Fri, 04/24/15

Hello friends in fitness….

Here’s a quick update with ¼ of my sabbatical year behind me…if you’re following on Facebook, you’re seeing my flags from where I’ve been thus far: ..
January was Puerto Rico, February was Paris, March was Manila, and now I'm doing LA for most of April.  While I’m on a complete year off from major conventions, I still am doing my consulting work and appearing in some fitness clubs on private basis.
Thank you for following me and for being interested in what I do….I always though Facebook was enough but so many of you have written telling me that you miss my news and you are NOT on Facebook that I started these updates.
In January, I stayed home in Puerto Rico and prepared for the year.  I shot a complete year’s DVD releases for Athlie clubs in Japan which included 4 Total Body Makeover releases of 30 minutes, 4 of 15 minutes, 4 of aqua version, and separate 4 Shakti Releases with PowerMusic music as well.  Whew!  It was a busy month.
I also did an article for IDEA which included a web-extra, and you can see that part here: http://bit.ly/LawrencesIDEAWebExtra.
In February, I ate my way through Paris. In March, I took a flat in Manila, Philippines, where I had worked before over the years, marking my 20th trip there. Bernadette O’Brien came to visit me in Manila to spend time with Irene Almario who has been an amazing host to me in the Philippines, and we went organic tomato and aubergine picking, mountain climbing, shopping, and eating our way through the mountains and beaches.  The most rewarding thing was the work we did for abused girls at an orphanage.  Betty taught them some of her creative writing and card making and I gave them one of the most inspirational songs I’ve ever learned: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Zbn7Khv8zM  Yury Rockit M. came to offer his talent at a charity event, and we did some work for Gold’s Gyms.  We took advantage of Philippine pricing and did an entire new photo shoot for new pics, but I didn’t really need them on sabbatical, so I did more photos with Biskit than for fitness.  Noel Chelliah left his newlywed wife in KL and flew 3 ½ hours just for dinner and a bacon waffle at the Pancake House and talk about life and love…it was a great reunion to catch up.
On my penultimate Sunday morning there, over a champagne brunch, my phone rang with the notification that the ECA Convention in NYC voted me for the Lifetime Achievement Award 2015 on Broadway, which was a huge accolade for me, especially as this is my 50th year and I’m on sabbatical.  I’m honored and grateful to all of those who have voted for me.  I recorded an acceptance speech of gratitude and put it up on FB.
I’ve never ever been in a country as Catholic as this, so I enjoyed doing my Good Friday and Easter weekend here with outdoor stations of the cross, complete with full-size crosses to carry, stations of pay-it-forward prayers, write-your-troubles down red ribbons you can nail to a huge cross, and prayer walls, not to mention so many penitent people.  It was all amazing.
April: I’ve always wanted to live in LA, so I found a small bungalow in West Hollywood which I came to find out belongs to the designer Tom Ford!  If the Philippines helped me re-examine what it means to be a Catholic to me today (let alone just a person with values I admire), LA teaches me how nutty one can go with dog issues: I went to my first all-dog restaurant (they call themselves “people-friendly” and offer places people can sit whilst their animals eat..and it smells awesome w/the fresh veggies and meats cooking when you walk in…..changed Biskit’s dog food slowly after learning about the brands that haven’t quite made their way to NYC yet…got Biskit a non-sedated holistic teeth cleaning, aced a behavioral evaluation where he achieved a 10 score out of 10, and won a mascot-of-the-month place for being able to do 2 emotional tricks on command (“kiss” and “hug”). It was wonderful to catch up w/colleagues Manuel who drove up from Mexico to celebrate his birthday, hang out with my friend Hollywood celebrity trainer Jeffrey Bornman, and visit with other friends like Connie Towers from General Hospital.  I hope you saw the pics on Facebook. May: Surprise…. (I can’t tell you everything now and spoil the surprises!)
Jump to June: Mykonos has 2 spaces left for our mind-body retreat: it could be YOU.  Here’s the BEST part of the deal: you get yourself to Mykonos to join us (you get your airfare) but you have until December 1 to pay off the retreat after giving us only a $250 deposit to guarantee your slot.Valerie Grant <theposturecoach@gmail.com> If you want more info and to take advantage of this unbelievable deal, contact Valerie at Valerie Grant <theposturecoach@gmail.com>More info and complete file with pics here: http://www.findlawrence.com/shop_retreats.php.
For fitness, I’m not doing any international conventions at all in the typical sense: no sessions.  I AM going into clubs that have me in those countries where I’m staying to train their instructors and PT staff in various modalities.  I am still writing for AFAA, ACE, a few written fitness projects, and a new book!  AND SUBSCRIBE to my youtube channel!  just go here and click “subscribe”! www.youtube.com/findlawrence.
I’m looking forward to getting to Europe soon, but getting there in a way I have never, ever reached that continent!
                                                Stay tuned!
